The house we aren't going to buy

OK, we finally started house hunting. And we fell in LOVE with this house. I mean, just look at that kitchen!! (Click the link on the title of this post, and it'll take you to the MLS listing for the house. Sigh)

But we had to walk away. It was way up in the mountains on a narrow mining claim. The land is COMPLETELY unfarmable... not even space for me to squeeze in a small greenhouse, nonetheless any chickens or cows. We would also HAVE to buy a new car, because the jetta could never make it up the mountain. I imagine on a bad day, we'd be snowed in pretty quickly in this house, which would make it hard to go to work... it's WAY up the mountain! It's going to be a beautiful home for someone. Just not for us. Who ever lives there now did a great job updating the home.

We discovered a new "sport"

It's called SKIJORING

We just call it walking the dogs, on skis, when the snow is too deep! Larry is getting good at it with Hobbes and Athena, he might even consider entering in some local races... Now I just need that sled dog team I've always wanted!!

Boots and Abu at Christmas

Our neighbors have these hilarious little dogs named Boots and Abu. They are Beagle/Corgi mixes or something. They are little spazzes.. they bark all the time and act all tough, and if Grish even LOOKS at them, they yelp and run off. It's really quite hilarious! Anyhow, Chris, our neighbor, put little santa hats on their heads. I tried to take pictures, but they were more interested in getting petted than sitting still.

Weld County Snow Removal

They came today to plow our roads! You know, it took them 2 MONTHS - *2* months to show up and clear our streets. OH, wait, they still missed our street... here it is. Can you believe we've been driving in this for 2 months? And this is after a LOT of it has melted. Fabulous.

But wait, they did plow our cross street. CHECK this out... This is what they consider snow removal? (Larry and I will be getting a truck next winter with a plow attachment on the front, BELIEVE ME, I'm not putting up with this crap anymore!) Seriously, they piled all the SNOW in the middle of the street. It's ridiculous...

But then again, it must be hard to clear snow when you aren't using a plow... instead you are using a ROAD GRADER and a BULL DOZER! But before they remove the snow on our streets, they first had to make sure the grader and the dozer had a safe place to park. They don't plow our streets, but this is the 3rd time they have plowed the "park". This is an open space park across the street, we let the dogs play there. They have sufficiently scraped away ANY discernible plant life that once resided there, making it a bare, muddy mess. That's going to be fun in the spring. THANKS WELD COUNTY!!

Rocky Mountain Sunset

Larry says this is why we are here. Took this shot after a long day of skiing, and driving home from the Chinese food place....

Hiking in November

OK, so we went hiking over Thanksgiving. Let's just say it was cold... Ditka preferred to stay in the tent. He got pretty cold. But isn't he cute all snuggled up in blankets? Hobbes and Athena loved wearing their doggie back packs... they got to run all over the place. What goofballs.

We went to a place called "The Homestead" in Roosevelt National Forest. It was a homestead set up in the 1860's adn completely abandoned by the 1960's. Some of the original homes are still there, as well as old tools, implements and mmm.... outhouses. We even found this remnant of a truck. It's a really cool site, and kind of an interesting look into the lives of pioneers. I imagine the winters were COLD and the Homestead was pretty isolated from Lyons, which isn't far away, but it isn't an easy passage to town.

Anyhow, that's how we spent Thanksgiving weekend. Hey, we moved all the way out here, we might as well take advantage!
